Recycling and Bins
Rubbish and recycling sites
Please take your rubbish and recycling to the appropriate collection points. The village’s kerbside collection system operates fortnightly and, unfortunately, has proved not to work well for guests.
The best collection point, as it takes ALL sorts of waste, is just outside Montsoreau on the road to Saumur. Its address is 7 Chemin des Caves 49730 Montsoreau and it is on the left as you head towards Saumur, between the Camping de l’Isle Verte and the bridge.
There are 4 different categories of waste – packaging (emballages), glass (verre), paper (papier) and general rubbish (ordures ménagères). Descriptions of what is recyclable and what is not are provided elsewhere in this pack, and on the baskets in the cupboards under and next to the kitchen sink.
Within Fontevraud -
General rubbish can be taken to the bins in the main Fontevraud car park in Place du 8 Mai 1945 (at the village end) [NUMBER 3 ON THE MAP].
Glass and paper can be taken to the skips
on Place du Grand Clos (you can walk to it along Rue des Genets , which is across Ave Rochechouart at the top of our road) [NUMBER 1 ON THE MAP], or
on Rue des Ecoteries on the northern edge of the village [NUMBER 2].
There is no collection site for packaging in the village.
Everyday environmental tips (as recommended by the Tourist Office of Anjou)
I use the washing machine and dishwasher only when there is a full load
I take a shower instead of a bath. I use 60 litres of water for a shower as compared with 200 litres for a bath.
I don’t let the water run unnecessarily when I wash my hands, brush my teeth, shave, shower, do the washing up ….
…..By doing this I save 15 litres every 3 minutes
I don’t leave equipment such as hi-fi, computers, televisions on stand-by. Even on stand-by they consume electricity.
I unplug my charger when my mobile is charged. Even when charged it uses electricity.
I put out the lights when I go out of a room.
I air the rooms at least 10 minutes a day. I turn down the heating while I’m airing.
19 degrees is the ideal temperature for living rooms and 16 degrees for bedrooms.
I put the lid on the saucepan when I am boiling water.
I sort my rubbish and recycling according to the guidelines.
I don’t leave the fridge or freezer door open too long, and I don’t put in dishes that are still hot or warm…
…This way I use 4 times less electricity
