Household equipment instructions

 KITCHEN

Sink

There is a pull up silver knob to the left of the tap to open the plug.

Please note that the hot water is very hot.

Freezer and second fridge

As well as the fridge in the kitchen, there is a fridge-freezer in the laundry room, at the far end of the ground floor.

Oven

Turn the dial to the chosen programme [see separate page].

Use the + and – buttons to set the temperature.

Please line the oven trays when you use them. You should find baking parchment and foil in the drawer under the toaster.

Microwave

The top dial controls the power which increases as you turn it from left to right.

The time is set by the dial below.  Please return this dial to 0 when you have finished if you have stopped it before the timer runs out.

If you do the dials first the microwave will start as soon as you shut the door.

Dishwasher

If the sign flashes for rinse aid or salt please top up.  Rinse aid is under the sink.  Salt is under the sink in the laundry room.

  1. Press the on/off switch

  2. Choose your programme - Details of programmes are on the file in English and French

  3. Press the start button

  4. When finished press on/off again

Hob

This is an induction hob and therefore will only work if a metal object is in contact with the hob area.

It has two cooking zones on the right-hand side; on the left there are also two zones, and these can be operated separately or together. The cooking zones are signified by the keys on the left of the control panel. The four diamonds correspond to the four individual cooking zones and the boat shape next to them is for when you want to use the two left-hand zones as one.

To start, put your pan on your chosen zone and press the orange power key, on the left of the control panel. Press the zone key that corresponds to your zone. Then choose a heat setting; it’s best to select a number (from the pad on the right-hand side of the control panel) and then adjust up or down (+ or -) from that. The power settings go up to 19, so maybe start with 7 or 8.

There are more complicated settings (see the manual if you want to try these) but it is possible to cook perfectly well with just the numbers and the + and – keys.

To switch off just one zone, press the key for that zone and then the – button, or just press and hold the key, until the zone’s displayed number goes to 0 and off, or “H” (indicating residual heat). To switch off the whole hob, press the power button.

You can lock the hob (so it’s not used by mistake and/or not adjusted while in use, for example by a child). To do this, press the padlock key (above the power button) until “bloc” appears in the display, confirmed by a beep.

To unlock, press the padlock key until “bloc” disappears, confirmed by a beep.
